Toronto and Niagra - On-The Lake

Arrived safely in Toronto - stayed with the "Carloine's family" for two very full days and have now moved on to Niagra On The Lake for the wedding tomorrow. Niagra on the Lake is a lovely and very pretty area about 20 minutes drive from Niagra Falls. June & I spent the day at the Falls and walked a lot and took some snaps. Unfortunately these technical glitches get to me when I try and upload to the blog - but stay with me.Photos will appear later.

Yesterday Caroline's parents took us to their lake house - what a beautiful place right on the waterfront at Georges Bay - a bay of Lake Huon - one of the Great Lakes.. It has five bedrooms - it is their week-ender!!!!! - They call it  a "Cottage" - it is two stories with double garage and boat house which also houses their two snowmobiles - I tried to explain what a cottage is in Australia. We went swimming  - the water was great - crystal clear and a comfortable temperature. We sat on the deck with some cold beers and really enjoyed a wonderful vista and conversation. I am happy to report that Caroline's dad and I share the same political phjlosophy. He reports that the new Canadian Govt is conservative and they comprehensively beat the previous left leaning social democrats. That sounds familiar ! - I took the opportunity of telling him about Jula's track record and what her prospects are like.- I took some shots of the view and will post these when I can.

It is very interesting here at Niagra on the Lake - there is a very big Canadian celebration of the Bi-centenial of Canada's victory over the United States in 1812. USA tried to take over Canada for their oil and mineral wealth. There are lots of re enactments with people walking around in period costumes - including soldiers of the time and they stop passers by and speak to them as if it was two hundred years ago. I hope to get some photos of the re enactments to post. Really haven't had a lot of opportunity to take photos.

June and I are coping with the driving ok although I thought I was in trouble because one of the main East - West Highways in Toronto ( The 401) is 16 lanes wide and is extremely busy with cars, trucks and buses merging in and out all the time - sometimes at great speed. We managed to avoid it while driving by going on to a toll road - but we did get first hand experience when being driven around by Caroline and her family.

The GPS is worth every penny we paid for it - it really helps with the navigation and it gives us some confidence that we will get to where we are going.

Bye for now - we miss our beloved family and friends back home - but we are still having a good time. You are in our thoughts always.

  1. Glad to hear you are enjoying Canada (and their new government). Miss you both here, enjoy, still waiting on the photos though. Love from a seasonably warm Sydney.

  2. 16 lanes wide!!!! I can't even imagine that. And what's even more insane is that it sounds like they need them all.
